The Fairfax Free Book Bus started in 2022 as a mother-son philanthropy effort. We believe in the importance of literacy AND recognize that kids really benefit from having books and a library of their own.
Volunteers play an important role as we collect books and donate them to children throughout Fairfax County.
The Fairfax Free Book Bus was founded in 2022 by a Fairfax County mother and her teenage son combining their love of reading and dedication to community service. It was their goal to collect gently used books and donate them to children in the community. The FFBB has partnered with local organizations and schools, hosting events where kids select their own books to take home and keep for free.
The primary goal of the Fairfax Free Book Bus is to provide all children in our community with access and ownership to books. Our volunteers deliver books to children though events including Title 1 schools and other organizations. We are also refurbishing a van to use as a bookmobile to deliver books to children in their neighborhoods and communities.
As we continue to collect and distribute gently used books, our goal is to acquire a small bus to transport books for future events.
