Our Team
The Fairfax Free Book Bus is operated by a group of Fairfax County mothers who deeply believe in the importance of literacy AND that kids really benefit from having books and a library of their own. Volunteers are critical to the success of the FFBB and play an important role in collecting books and running our events to make sure all Fairfax County children have access to books.
Our History
The Fairfax Free Book Bus was founded in 2022 by two Fairfax County mothers and their teenage sons combining their love of reading and dedication to community service. It was their goal to collect gently used children's books and then to partner with local organizations, schools, etc. where kids can come and select their own books to take home and keep for free.
Our Goal
The primary goal of the Fairfax Free Book Bus is to provide all children in our community with access and ownership to books. Currently our team of volunteers deliver books to events with community partners and set up our book giveaways in space generously provided by Title 1 schools and needs-based organizations.
Our long term goal, in addition to continuing to collect and distribute gently used books, is to acquire a repurposed bus in which to transport books and hold our future events.
